Industrial-edge operators deploy sensors and controllers with operational lifetimes of fifteen to twenty-five years. The authentication scheme that ships in firmware today must remain secure in 2045. Existing approaches rely on RSA or ECDSA certificates and depend on backhaul to a central PKI for renewal. Neither assumption survives regulatory post-quantum mandates and the operational reality of remote installations with intermittent backhaul.
